The Chelsea squad is reportedly unhappy with Antonio Conte’s intense training methods and have the feeling that this causes the injuries at the club. The team feels that this endangers the title defence, facing a nine-point gap with Premier league leaders Manchester City.
Conte has hold on to the same training schedule as last year, which is physical with few days off, despite the additional Champions League matches this year.
The Times reports that ‘several members of the squad have privately complained of fatigue’ and that ‘Conte likes to work his players very hard for an extended period’ before granting them a break.Chelsea’s players ‘remain supportive of Conte’, but ask the manager ‘to tweak his approach’.
The players feel that the heavy workload could be the cause of the injury problem the club faces. N’Golo Kanté, Victor Moses are out for a longer period, while Álvaro Morata has just recovered from a hamstring injury. Against Roma last Tuesday, David Luiz and Tiémoué Bakayoko have picked up injuries.
