Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has reportedly opened up the door for Inter ace Mauro Icardi. The Argentine has to compete for the centre-forward position and Zidane hopes that this will give Karim Benzema a boost.
L’Equipe reports that the 3-0 loss to Barcelona was an eye-opener for the manager and made him realize that changes in the squad needed to be made. A secret meeting with Zidane and President Florentino Perez was arranged and they concluded that it was a mistake to leave Benzema without any competition in the squad.
The Madrilan press has turned on the Frenchman, partly caused by the fact that he returned from the winter break with an injury. Zidane claims that it was sustained in the Clasico, but the Madrilan press believes that Benzema’s professionalism is doubted.
According to L’Equipe, Mauro Icardi and Timo Werner are highest on Madrid’s wishlist and it is said that Los Blancos have already made contact with their representatives.
